Meet the Team

  • Charlotte Mackenzie

    FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

    Charlotte has been working to improve access to justice in Malawi, in partnership with CHREAA, since 2012. She first travelled to Malawi to intern with CHREAA for 4 weeks drafting bail applications and ended up staying 4 months. She has returned to Malawi frequently over the last 9 years and has worked closely with the Legal Aid Department, Judiciary, Police and Prison Service in Malawi, to establish the Bail Project.

    She is a practising Barrister in the UK with 42 Bedford Row Chambers.

  • Siphiwe Maliherah

    PROJECT SUPERVISOR

    Siphiwe has worked for CHREAA since its inception and is a key member of the management team. His role with MBP includes logistical planning of training events, distribution of booklets to Magistrates’ Courts and Police Stations in and around Blantyre and monitoring and evaluation. Most recently, Siphiwe has completed a Diploma in Project Management with the Institute of Commercial Management in the UK.

  • Chisomo Magwejani

    PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

    Chisomo has been working as a paralegal with CHREAA, under MBP for 3 years and has an Associate Degree in Legal Studies. Chisomo co-ordinates our project activities, working with justice agencies such as courts, prisons and police, to make the justice system more accessible for the poor and vulnerable in Malawi.

  • Kondwani Banda

    COMMUNITY PARALEGAL

    Kondwani has been working with CHREAA as a paralegal and human rights defender for four years. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and an Associate Degree in Legal Studies. His day to day work involves promoting access to justice through holding Paralegal Aid Clinics at prisons, police stations and courts to advise and assist those who cannot afford/access a lawyer.

  • Boxten Kudziwe

    COMMUNITY PARALEGAL

    Boxten spent seven years in prison awaiting trial before being acquitted and released. Following his release he went to Mpemba staff development College to commence his paralegal studies. He then joined CHREAA and has been working under MBP since 2014. He is passionate about human rights and fighting for the rights of the voiceless. He hopes to one day become a lawyer. He currently heads up the MBP’s Mwanza office.

  • Michael Hynds

    TREASURER

    Michael is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with over 26 years of financial accounting, consulting and related experience. Since 2013, he has worked almost exclusively in international relief and development settings, for consulting firms and international charities operating predominantly in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America. Most recently, Michael has been based in Sierra Leone, Kenya and Tanzania at maternal health and education establishments. Michael graduated from the University of St Andrews in 1994 with an MA in Economics.
